Workshops
We are excited to share our workshop schedule for the event. As stated in our last logistics email, we have decided to host the workshops during a very long lunch.
Workshop attendees are welcome to take their lunch during the workshop, attend one workshop and eat lunch during the other hour, or just eat before/after.
Awards
Our awesome judge team, led by Judge Advisor Heather Abrams, will be wandering the pits to talk to your teams and hear all about your team’s accomplishments and give you practice for season. Here are the awards and their descriptions for our event.
Discovery Row
Bring out younger siblings and friends to the event to not only see what FIRST Robotics Competition is all about, but to participate in various STEAM activities. Attendees can play with LEGO Robots, build a launcher, visit sponsor displays, and more.
Rule Changes
SoCal Showdown will be played using the rules outlined in the 2023 FRC Game Manual in addition to rule changes outlined here.
We have recently updated rules, please take at our most recent changes
Shirt Design and Pre-Order Reminder
We are proud to present to your our full team shirt design (attached). You can still pre-order the shirt to make sure your size is reserved. Pre-orders can be made here for $20.
Lunch Pre-Order Reminder
We have worked with several food vendors to provide affordable and convenient lunch options for all teams delivered straight to the SoCal Showdown. You can pre-order food for your team here until Wednesday, September 27. We highly encourage teams to order together so there is one pick-up point of contact. To make it easier for teams to coordinate this, we have created a Google Form for you to share with your team to collect your team’s order preferences.
COVID Policy
We are not going to be requiring masks, proof of vaccination, or proof of a negative test but we do want to remind everyone of some good basic practices:
We recognize that Covid-19 cases are starting to raise in our communities. We also understand that mitigating all risk of exposure to Covid-19 is impossible, and participants should make responsible decisions based on their own risk assessment and comfort. That said if participants are more comfortable wearing a mask during the event they should and will not be asked to remove for any reason.
In the event someone develops symptoms:
Anyone who develops symptoms between event days is asked not to return or enter the event.
Adults will be asked to leave the venue if they develop symptoms.
Students who develop symptoms should notify their mentor immediately
Mentors should have a plan to arrange for pickup of the sick student by a parent or other adult.
An adult should stay with the student outdoors, away from others while awaiting pickup.
All attendees must stay home if they feel sick
As always, you can find the most up to date information on our website www.socal-showdown.com
Please, don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions!
